Many organizations believe that investing money in human resource initiative is an unnecessary expense. This does not mean they try to avoid such expenditure. However, they believe that they are not bound to spend any further money on maintaining employee morale after carrying out to such expenses. Well, this is obviously going to end up being a bad advertisement for your business.
The fact that you think that spending money on a water cooler for your employees is a frivolous expense is surely not going to go down well with your employees. They will feel that it is an essential requirement and their perks and other benefits should not be restricted simply because you have installed such a device in the office.
If you have the habit of distributing designer suits to the most productive employees and if you cut down on this expense just because you have carried out other initiatives, you will discover that the employee morale falls down further. Nobody likes to be treated as an unnecessary appendage.
You should present yourself in such a manner as if spending money for employees is your favorite task. Instead of saying no immediately, you should come up with the right reason and approach that will convince the employees that their demand is not fair. Do not confuse the process of give and take to imply that the employees shall give and you shall take. That is not how HR works.
