HR Policy – It Is Not Bad To Be Flexible

It is important to understand that well established rules and regulations related to human resources are not absolute laws. There is nothing stopping you from making changes to well established trends and patterns as and when required. Why don’t you offer unsecured business loans to all those individuals whom you have fired?

This may sound like a very risky preposition for you. After all, you are not in the business of lending and recovering money, right? Well, if you have been forced to fire certain employees because of the recession and wish to retain goodwill, you can offer unsecured loans to help them set up a business when the times are tough. Now, it is not easy to set up a business and earn a profit.

However, the fact that you were prepared to trust the worker and help him or her survive the recession will work in your favor. After the recession ends, the employee may be interested in joining you back again. Of course, there is a possibility that the employee will become a good business person and will become your own competitor. However, this is one risk that you will have to take to establish a good reputation in the market.

The fact that you go out of your way to help those whom you were forced to fire will naturally enhance productivity and morale within your organization. You don’t have to do charity but you certainly can consider the long term prospects and benefits of such a decision. Such an approach may well become a part of your human resource policy. Hence, be flexible when determining the right policy and approach for your organization.
